spread the warmth @ 2:00 PM

yesterday was extremely cold here in san francisco. it was so windy that i could hear the wind howling outside my room. fall season calls for layering. i had two sweaters on and even that wasn't enough!
fall wreaks havoc on your laundry pile, but it's the greatest season for equalizing fashion. when it's cold, bulk looks good, so it's easier to camouflage figure flaws... like in my case, i don't mind looking top heavy. haha and oh! a pair of thigh/knee high socks or patterned tights make it A LOT easier to show some legs.
and the beauty is that it doesn't take a fortune to achieve these looks. you could start by shopping your own closet and then consider what components might be missing. maybe you just need a few basics to spice up your entire wardrobe: chunky knits and cardigans, sweater vest, shirt dress, & a skinny belt {to cinch the waist if you don't feel comfortable with volume}.
but a word of caution when layering; when mixing numerous pieces, only one or two things should stand out, such as your over-sized shawl and your shoes or maybe even your bag and your belt. if everything is bold and busy, you'll be mixing up a recipe for fashion disaster. just sayin'. so if you're daring enough, go for bright colors to make it pop but... i like to keep it simple.
ultimately, layers should look comfortable, not haphazard. it's the smooth ease of casual, comfy and cozy that makes these looks so enviable.
i can hardly wait for tomorrow's feast, black friday shopping, our trip to LA to visit my family & christmas! i get all warm and fuzzy thinking about the holiday season and the joyous adventures it'll bring to me. the season is upon us. so what are you waiting for? go grab a book, hot cup of cocoa or glass of wine, your loved one and… cuddle up! it's time to spread the warmth!
ps. happy 5&11 anniversary to my husband. i love you to the moon & back. 6 years is coming up, i better get something special. HAHA. ;]
i wish you all a very special thanksgiving day for you and your family...
